Research Assistantships

Funding for PhD candidates available now!

Graduate Research Assistants Needed

The Utah Traffic Lab is always looking for new Graduate Research Assistants to support the lab’s research program. We want to hear from you, but only through your applications. Please apply to the University through the Graduate School Office, which can be found here. You can find out more about the College of Engineering, which can be found here.

Many of you like to send in your CV's asking if we'll support you. We get hundreds of these "spam" type e-mails. Everything you need to know at the application stage is right here on this web site. So, if you'd like to be considered for a funded post-graduate experience, here in the Traffic Lab, then apply formally. You can mention that you've read about us on this site, in your application.

Future Job opportunities

  • August 2009 - Ph.D. - 4 positions
  • August 2009 - Master of Science - 2 positions

If you are interested in applying for a position, review our FAQ and submit your application to the University. Please do not e-mail asking for an assessment. We assess through the formal application.

FAQ

Do I need to register for a higher degree? To qualify for an R.A. position, you will have to become a registered Masters (or) Ph.D student in Transportation Engineering, in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering with University of Utah.

Should I apply if I am an ME or EEE? No. We do not support graduate students from other engineering disciplines.

Can I pre-qualify? Many people ask, “If I were to apply, would I get financial support (a job)?" Simply submit a formal application to the University. A CV is simply not enough to assess an applicants potential. We need your full application (with GRE, TOEFL, and letters of recommendation). So, if you are interested in a Research Assistantship, indicate your interest in the Traffic lab in your letter, and apply formally. If your background fits, we will contact you. Be sure to supply a current e-mail address in your letter.

What is the salary? All TAs, RAs and interns are paid hourly. You will begin by earning $12 per hour. At the end of each semester, we review your progress and pay rate. Some outstanding students have seen their pay rates climb to $20 per hour. It's up to you! Get details on our financial support page.
